Thank you for supporting my point about cross-system compatibility.  The world doesn't use Win 7 exclusively.  Maybe BBTs April First joke next year should be to require all members use iPod as the only approved operating system/hardware platform to view and use content here ...  :hmmm:
Don't be silly. It's obviously going to be Chrome OS.

Also, I was complaining about the apparent directory the torrent is intended to download into, not just the file name.  I copy/pasted the proposed directory name into a new folder name field, and the characters do not display (nor do they in the title bars of the web browser).  There's already enough stupid silly epeen games with torrent pathnames without adding even more idiotic characters to the mess.
What apparent directory? It's just one file. It doesn't create a new directory (the 480p torrent doesn't anyway confirmed for this as well).

@Southrop: Sure, there are sound cards which don't have a 24bit DAC. You'll need software downsampling the signal to 16bit then. I think the operating system or sound card driver will do this automatically, if it knows that the sound card cannot process 24bit PCM data.
Note: This is independent of FLAC being the format. There are also 24bit DTS files (@ 96kHz), let alone DTS-HD MA, Dolby TrueHD etc.
Ah cool. Thanks for clarifying. Wasn't sure about how the downsampling worked.

The torrent with a single file will download to whatever directory you point your BitTorent client to (Azureus). I see you mean the name of the .torrent file, which it inherits from the title of the torrent page. Well, one of my machines runs WinXP and does not support display of Unicode characters. Still it will create directories and file names with those Unicode characters (I naturally run NTFS), it will just display "boxes" instead of those "unprintable for XP" characters. If you handle Japanese animation, you should expect Japanese characters to crop up in your file names from time to time ;)

May I ask how much space the original video (just video, remuxed to MKV) takes?

Ah, forget it. I just realized you wrote the answer in a previous PM. I hope it's ok to quote it:

FWIW, there are two different encodes on the BD. A 10GB MPEG-2 version, and a 5GB MPEG-4 version. I chose the MPEG-2 version since it had less compression artifacts. I encoded it just enough to be close to the BD, artifacts and all, while cutting down the file size by 1/8.

5.1 FLAC 24-bit ... Do want. My system supports this!

.
Thanks for the feedback guys.  Sorry to have been so irritated.  My main mistake was that the title used for the offer is usually what I expect the directory to be.  When I noticed the unicode refusing to display in the browser title bar I looked into it.  There was no way for me to evaluate the .torrent file until the offer was approved ... so I hung myself a bit on my assumptions (FULLY aware of how to spell ASSumptions, thank you!).

As far as the occasional kanji .. yah.  I do have a few torrents that have caused me a nice little headache in the past.  Filenames tend to be easier to deal with than directory structures ... but, it's more an attitude on my part that it should not be done unnecessarily.  When it can't be avoided is a bit of a different story.

Anyway, grabbing the 720 version now.  Thank you for the offer!  It looks very promising & I'm looking forward to it.

Would you be able to confirm if color conversion was done or not?  Or what the deal is with jokli's screenshots?  I haven't seen an answer yet...

@sucram03: I've partially downloaded the file and got a screenshot. I did a comparison with THORA's release (both screenshots taken with the same settings, YV12), you can find it here. It seems that indeed there has been done some color conversion by THORA or creamstar (edit) or my system (some wrong detection somewhere, bad interpretation of parameters, …).

Okey doke, thank you.  Looks to be a wonderful encode more true to the source than THORA's 1080p which seems to have done some sharpening that isn't really necessary.  I'll look forward to seeding this, thanks :D

This is the first time ever that I _had_ to have my glasses on me to see everything that's going on on the screen. Astonishing amounts of detail everywhere.
It's also the first time my PC has not been able to keep up perfectly with the data rate. Perhaps I should by a proper sound card to ease the burden somewhat.
Simply put, you really, really, really get what you download.

To be precise downsampling is lowering the sampling frequency while here you will need to lower the bit depth. Or you will need to do both as I don't see any info about samplerate. Anyway this will be done on software level so its irrelevant what soundcard you have. In dire need (dithering will be done by your cpu) you can just cut off 8 least significant bits and it will sound quite fine.

@creamstar
And now my questions:
1) What is the audio samplerate?
2) Is the commentary track subtitled?
3) Have you tested the compatibility with "average" systems for example by checking dropped frames count after playback? (I believe 42Mbps high profile avc might choke most users systems, especially paired with such audio track)

Thanks for the information.
Unfortunately i do not know japaneese, but hopefully someone will translate this, as I consider such extras as the best ones.
Well quality justifies high requirements. It just means I won't be able to use my laptop to watch this (DXVA doesn't help much in it's case).

When you say "use" your laptop, do you mean to hook it up to a TV to watch 1080p content?  I mean, if your laptop isn't good enough to use DXVA to do that, then it's unlikely you would have any benefit to watch it on your laptop LCD, since most screens nowadays are barely above 720p in regards to resolution, unless you opt for something more high-end.

What kind of laptop do you have?  There are laptops out there nowadays that can do 1080p content through DXVA pretty reasonably for only $300-500 depending on where you look.

How do you want the file to be credited on AniDB? For now, I've dumped the 1080p file and set the group field to neo1024 (because he already had a release there), but I can change this if you wish.

EDIT: Oh, well… avdump seems to choke on this file. :D

1. 48KHz
2. No, sadly, but at least this distributes it wider for the potential to be fansubbed, and if you understand Japanese, you can make use of it.
3. This isn't for average systems. 720p is. This is the highest quality, and I make no apologies about it.   The audio track probably isn't going to choke the system. The video will. A graphics card that supports DXVA is highly recommended.

No apologies needed. Therefore, none accepted. :) I appreciated the hard work. This really is one of those 'from the heart' efforts.

Thank you for these. I'll be downloading all 3 sizes and seeding same for awhile. I like being able to playback on my netbooks, regular desktops and my 'art' workstation.

Thank you very, very much.
