"Ray! You Smell it...It is the smell of Death!" Classic line.
Watched this back in 93 when Anime films were just being released in UK. This or Akira was my first experience of this genre.
Remastered Looks great (considering) and the option to have dual audio is nice. To be honest though, I couldnt listen to it in Japanese
despite disliking dubed movies. In this instance, english dub is actually pretty decent.
Complaints for blurred violence is unfounded Imo.The different camera shots for exploding heads, etc give the scenes a more
gritty edge and make for an interesting contrast against the rest of the visuals.
My only complaint is some of the lol continuity or narrative inconsitencies through out. Didnt matter too much since the nostalgia
and badass factor overule this in every way. It is a shame though that they used 4:3 AR. This would have been amazing in 2:35
or minimum 16:9.
Thanks for upload!

This is one of my favorite styles of art, classic 80's anime. They do not make them like this anymore
Although the newer Fist of the North Star mini series box set that came out was excellent as well.

To be honest, those blurry parts ruin it for me... i dunno what were they thinkin... "Oh let's make 98% of the movie epic and 2% shit ha-ha-ha"
Another thing that pissed me off is those annoying flashes and the fade of the picture during some violent scenes... I mean wtF?! It ain't making it dramatic, it makes it lose picture "literary", the scene just wastes...
Everything else is epic, just my 2c...
Edit:So i was really curious and lurked to find out...Turns out it was some kind of censorship fiasco. The original jaanese version in the theaters back then was the uncut gold (supposedly), but "some upset parents" said F that and made the director censor the crap outta it for home distribution, witch is beyond me why that happened. As far as i get it, it was targeted for 10 year old audience........ lolwut??? That original uncut version was "destroyed in a fire at Toei" - or so i read... Hell, could be other reason, bottom line is we ain't gettin a "normal" version. They say only a few reels survived the fire, so who knows - maybe at the 40-th anniversary?! lol
Also an italian version of the movie was released on vhs SEMI-uncensored but i have hard time finding it in the webz... dunno if it's on DVD too...
Anyway, if you are interested why those blurry pieces ruin our epic classic, feel free to read thru that ---> http://rq87.flyingomelette.com/HNK/M/e.html#Italian%20version%20-uncensored?

The whole censorship thing happened because this was the first time anyone had seen an uncensored anime adaptation of the manga, the TV series was heavily stylised with with white/black/yellow blood and deaths happening in silhouette etc. The TV series was also super popular with kids in its censored form so when the movie had similar levels of violence to the manga parents got upset about it.

May 20th 2011 (1 year and 4 days)Question: there seems to some moans and groans about the 'fact' that in the remaster they left the bloodiest scenes untouched; I always thought that they were intentionally blurred and opaque as to highlight the powers unleashed by Ken and such mystical characters? the remaster seemingly confirms this.
